Differential Diagnosis Acute renal failure. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) Cirrhosis. Pulmonary fibrosis.
In short, they are the same, but we thought it would be helpful to provide information on what congestive heart failure is, the types of heart attack someone might have, and how heart failure is diagnosed.
What causes congestive heart failure? high levels of cholesterol and/or triglyceride in the blood. high blood pressure. poor diet. a sedentary lifestyle. diabetes. smoking. being overweight or obese. stress.
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), also called congestive cardiac failure (CCF) or just heart failure, is the inability of the heart to pump a sufficient amount of blood throughout the body, or requiring elevated filling pressures in order to pump effectively.
The term, Congestive Cardiac Failure (CCF), is medical jargon, used to describe a group of symptoms and problems caused by a weakened heart muscle.
Rather, it means that the heart muscle has become less able to contract over time or has a mechanical problem that limits its ability to fill with blood. As a result, it can't keep up with the body's demand, and blood returns to the heart faster than it can be pumped out—it becomes congested, or backed up.
The symptoms of heart failure depend on which side of your heart is affected and how serious your condition has become. Most symptoms are caused by reduced blood flow to your organs and fluid buildup in your body. Fluid buildup happens because the flow of blood through your heart is too slow.
Your health care provider may ask you to lower the amount of fluids you drink: When your heart failure is not very bad, you may not have to limit your fluids too much. As your heart failure gets worse, you may need to limit fluids to 6 to 9 cups (1.5 to 2 liters) a day.
All patients with heart failure may benefit from diuretic therapy to reduce fluid overload. Fluid and salt restriction are no longer recommended unless intake is particularly high.
Fluid restriction means that you need to limit the amount of liquid you have each day. Fluid restriction is needed if your body is holding water. This is called fluid retention. Fluid retention can cause health problems, such as tissue and blood vessel damage, long-term swelling, and stress on the heart.
