Its main responsibility is to take data from the network layer and provide it to the physical layer for transmission. The data link layer ensures hop to hop delivery, meaning it facilitates the movement of data from one node to another in the network. This layer plays a crucial role in ensuring proper functioning of all seven layers in the system, helping in the smooth transfer of data across the network.
