Im in the pantry today doing some fall inventory and rotation and just checking things out this can of black beans has an expiration date of 723 but did you know that black beans are a low acidity item and will actually last three years past the Best Buy date so these are going to be good until the summer of 2026. I still want to use them and rotate them as Im bringing in new things but by knowing how long things last past the best by date and being able to restock your shelves and rotate things you will be surprised how much money that youll save on groceries so I teach how to do this and which items are safe to keep longer in the Hope project and also in the grocery solution so those are my courses that I teach how to have a stocked pantry and Safe Money and groceries

To be an effective control, physical inventory should be taken at least monthly. The inventory records are kept in a spreadsheet or in another system reserved for that purpose. The inventory sheet (Figure 3) can list the items alphabetically or in the order they will appear on the shelves in the storage areas.
keep food covered and off the floor during storage. avoid any unnecessary touching of food. store raw foods, especially meat and fish, on the bottom shelf of the fridge to prevent raw meat juices dripping onto ready-to-eat foods. keep cleaning chemicals and other non-food items stored away from food.
Store food in designated storage areas. To prevent possible contamination, keep food away from dishwashing areas, garbage rooms, restrooms, and furnace rooms. Never store food near chemicals or cleaning supplies, and keep it out from under stairways and pipes. Store food in proper containers.
Store raw food separately from cooked food Always store raw food in sealed or covered containers at the bottom of the fridge. Keep raw foods below cooked foods, to avoid liquid such as meat juices dripping down and contaminating the cooked food.
It should also be stored in the following top-to-bottom order: ready-to-eat food, whole fish, whole cuts of beef and pork, ground meats and fish, and whole ground poultry.
1. Store raw food like meat, poultry, fish, sausages, bacon etc., in the bottom part of the fridge so that juices cannot drip on foods below. 2. Store ready-to-eat foods such as cooked meats, pies and dairy products such as cheese, butter, cream and yoghurt in the top part of the fridge.
To prevent cross contamination store food in a cooler in the following order: Cooked and ready-to-eat foods on the top or highest shelf. Whole meat on the shelf below the ready-to-eat items.
Ready-to-eat foods should be stored on the highest shelves in the refrigerator. That way, juice from raw foods cant drip down and contaminate the ready-to-eat food.
