To schedule an appointment to surrender a pet, call 416-338-PAWS (7297) between 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. so that you can be transferred to the shelter closest to you. Animal shelters are open to the public by appointment only for emergencies, adoption, pet redemption, pet surrender and fostering.
Request an appointment: All surrenders at the Edmonton Humane Society are done by appointment only in order to prepare for your pets arrival and to ensure we have the space and resources available to provide the best possible care.
First contact the person or shop or shelter you bought for your pet from and ask if you can return your pet. If they wont take your pet back then contact No Kill shelters, to find out if they can take your pet. You need to think about why you wanted a pet - and why you dont want to have the pet anymore.
If you still cant keep your cat This could be with family or friends, or if you purchased the cat from a breeder, they may be willing to take your cat back. The next best option is to surrender your cat to the local council, an animal shelter or rescue organisation. This decision should not be taken lightly.
Check with the animal shelter, rescue or breeder where you got your pet. Some organizations require in the adoption contract that you return the pet to them if you can no longer provide care. Even if it wasnt part of your contract, the organization or breeder may be able to help you find your pet a new home.
