for us world builders arguably the most important thing to flesh out below the heroes are where people live because the current state of a settlement is the result of all the history that predated it and now we get to tell a story inside of it for Dungeon Masters I have a little statement to make if you follow this guide for every settlement that you make your brain will die because all the information Im about to give you is completely unnecessary for the village youre running all you need are the places that the party is actually going to go as a general rule of thumb for short visit settlements all you need is a place for them to stay a place for them to pray and a place to shop if the settlement is big enough dont expect exploration from players with a goal already in place for a home town or quest centric areas its best to add personality to each of the above locations an inn and a tavern have a family that runs them other guests and sometimes a form of entertainment for adve

You can only build a city if you have a settlement on the board that can be replaced with the new city. Cities will earn you double the resources and are worth two victory points each. Settlements and cities must be built along roads and cant be next to each other.
A settlement may be upgraded to a city during a players turn for the cost of 2 Grain and 3 Ore. The settlement is then returned to the players supply and may be reused in a different location. Each player has 5 settlements. If they have built all 5 settlements they have to build a city to build another settlement.
Each of your settlements must connect to at least 1 of your own roads.
You can build the settlement in the middle of an opponents road (as long as your own road connects to it and there is at least one gap before any other existing settlements). Yes. It does affect the longest road: the road stops at the settlement for counting purposes, and starts again at the other side.
No. If you build a new road, it must always connect to one of your own roads, settlements, or cities.
Settlement: is a place where people live. A settlement may be as small as a single house in a remote area or as a large as a mega city (a city with over 10 million residents). Site: is the actual location of a settlement on the earth and is composed of the physical characteristics of the landscape specific to the area.
You can break an opponents road by building a settlement on an unoccupied intersection along that road! If you are tied for longest road, you still keep the Longest Road card. However, if you no longer have the longest road, but two or more players tie for the new longest road, set the Longest Road card aside.
When someone builds a settlement in the middle of another players road, the road is split in two. This can cause the Longest Road bonus card to shift to a different player, including the person who built the settlement. In other words yes.
