During this session, we will be reviewing: The learning ratio, the science behind memory, reading strategies, note-taking tips and strategies, and mind-mapping. Learning Ratio. Research shows we learn in this ratio of 40-20-40. 40 percent is what we retain when we read before class; 20 percent when we go to class and actively participate; and 40 percent when we review after class. Course outlines are great tools to prepare before class, as they indicate the weekly content that will be taught in class. The more we review before class, the more we will be able to participate in class. Study groups and tutoring are great ways to achieve that second 40 percent, as they guide you on reviewing content, and clarifying concepts or questions that may arise after class. The science behind memory. There are three big processes that take place when we learn: Encoding, Storage and Retrieval. Encoding is o
