A Line Screen is the measure of how many halftone lines are printed in a linear inch. The value is expressed as Lines Per Inch (LPI). This important measurement related to the way printers reproduce photographic images also defines the necessary resolution of an image.
Lines per inch (LPI) is a measurement of printing resolution. A line consists of halftones that is built up by physical ink dots made by the printer device to create different tones. Specifically LPI is a measure of how close together the lines in a halftone grid are.
DPI Dots Per Inch the resolution of a printed image, how many tiny dots of ink printed per inch. The more dots, the finer the print. LPI Lines Per Inch refers to the lines of in a halftone or screen - the higher the number, the smaller the screen. These dots are not the same as those defined by in DPI.
Calculate lines-per-inch using the following formula(s): LPI = number of Lines to be printed on a page / printable height in inches, or. LPI = lines per page / paper height - (top margin + bottom margin)
Lpi is different for printing by hand and will vary from 35-55lpi for screenprinting or 65-85 for lithography. The grid of halftone dots is also set to a specific angle. A 45 angle is the least noticeable and is used for printing images in black or a single color.
The newline character ( \n ) is called an escape sequence, and it forces the cursor to change its position to the beginning of the next line on the screen. This results in a new line.
Screen frequency (also known as screen ruling or line screen) is the number of printer dots or halftone dots per inch used to print images. Screen frequency is measured in lines per inch (lpi.) The higher the resolution of the output device (printer), the higher (finer) screen frequency you can use.
Representative quality characteristics for screen printing include the adherence of inks to the surface, washing resistance, chromatic resistance, friction resistance, resistance to climatic factors.
