An Initial License requires passing scores on the appropriate MTEL exam and completion of a DESE-approved educator preparation program. An Initial License is valid for five years of employment and may be extended once, for five years. After that time, an educator is required to advance to a Professional License.
To become a secondary school teacher in Missouri, you must be certified in a secondary content area to teach grades 9-12. Requirements include a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours in your specialty area and a state-approved teacher preparation program.
To get an Initial License, you must: Hold or earn a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution. Pass the appropriate Massachusetts Tests for Educator License (MTELs) or other MA ESE-approved tests (see our MTEL resources and support) Complete an approved program of study for an Initial License.
Applicants for substitute certificates must also have a high school diploma, GED or completed a high school equivalency test, and are required to complete a minimum 20 hours of substitute teacher training.
Can I get an Emergency license? A: Yes, assuming you do not already have a Temporary, Provisional (Preliminary for Vocational), Initial or Professional license for Massachusetts in the licensure category you are pursuing, and you satisfy the criteria for the Emergency license.
Substitute Teaching (The required number of hours dropped from 60 in June of 2022 as a result of Governor Parson's signing of SB 681.) The second option is to complete a high school degree and a DESE-approved 20-hour training program. Currently approved substitute training programs can be found here.
Types of Alternative Teaching Licenses in California There are several different alternative pathways a candidate can take to achieve certification in California. These include study through a university internship program, a school internship program, teaching at a private school, or the Peace Corps.
To renew a Professional Certification, a teacher must have 15 contact hours of professional development per year. To reactive an expired certificate, a teacher must complete 24 contact hours in addition to the annual requirement. A Temporary Certification (1 year) requires 9 college credits annually.
Teacher certification is typically valid for five years before renewal is required. Educators who have left the teaching profession for an extended period or who are still active, but simply forgot to renew certification, can apply for reinstatement of certification.
