The Texas Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) system uses the Lone Star Card to provide access to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food benefits and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash benefits. The Lone Star Card is used in the same way any other debit card is used.
The Illinois Link card is a plastic card that looks and works like a debit card. If you are eligible for cash and SNAP benefits, you will access both with the same card. Only one Illinois Link Card is issued per account. Children issued P-EBT for the 2020-2021 school year will each have their own account.
SNAP (Food Stamps)
The Department of Human Services (DHS) has up to 30 days to process your application for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). You will get a letter telling you if DHS has approved or denied your request. If you are approved, the letter will show you the amount of monthly SNAP benefits you will receive.
The Illinois Link card can be used in all 50 states at most grocery stores and ATMs. Look for a display that the store accepts Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards. Current Cardholders may access their SNAP (food stamp) and cash benefits at Point of Sale (POS) terminals at most grocery stores.
