From tax professionals to do-it-yourself software, all eyes will be on Line 30 of IRS Form 1040.
Line 30 of the Form 1040 is calculated based on entries the taxpayer has entered for the amounts received for EIP1 (Economic Impact Payment #1) and EIP2.
Note: The following items arent deductible on Schedule A: Federal income and excise taxes, Social Security or Medicare taxes, federal unemployment (FUTA), railroad retirement taxes (RRTA), customs duties, federal gift taxes, per capita taxes, or foreign real property taxes.
Line 1 of this section will ask you to total up and record all of your qualified medical and dental expenses. These include insurance premiums for medical and dental care (but not life insurance), medical examinations, acupuncturists, chiropractors, eye doctors, etc.
Line 5a is a manual entry, in the middle column area, for your total Pensions and Annuities.
Schedule A is required in any year you choose to itemize your deductions. The schedule has seven categories of expenses: medical and dental expenses, taxes, interest, gifts to charity, casualty and theft losses, job expenses and certain miscellaneous expenses.
Your tax return amount is, in general, based on line 24 (total tax owed) and line 33 (total tax paid). Subtract line 24 from line 33. If the amount on line 33 is larger than the amount on line 24, thats what you overpaid. In theory, you should get this amount back as a refund.
Claiming your stimulus check on a tax return If you didnt receive the full amount of stimulus payments that were authorized in 2020, youll need to use Line 30 of the 1040 (or 1040-SR) form in order to request your money.
What exactly do I put on Line 30? You will only fill in the amount of the total credit you are due from either the first or second round or both. If you received a partial payment you would include the balance of the credit you are owed.
Line 34 calculates any overpaid amount, subtracting line 24 from line 33.
