Hey, hey, just before we start, if youre looking for a quick copy and paste solution, consider using time codes mentioned in the first comment or checking out the repository. Enjoy the watching! Hey there! In this video im going to explain how you can insert badges using different markup languages such as: Textile, RST, Markdown or HTML. The first point that we should understand is that there is no specific syntax for a badge or a shield in any of those markup languages, so something that we should figure out is what is actually a badge? Well, for doing such thing lets go to shields.io and create a simple static badge with just hardcoded information, lets take something that Ive used before to create the same kind of badges, and Make badge. What weve got here is a source link and this mysterious output element which is called Badge. Lets inspect it and what we can see here is just an SVG or Scalable Vector Graphics. Status badges let you show the state of your documentation to your users. They will show if the latest build has passed, failed, or is in an unknown state. They are great for embedding in your README, or putting inside your actual doc pages. You can see a badge in action in the Read the Docs README.
To use a badge: Via Github. Press Ctrl + f on your keyboard, to bring out the search modal. Enter the name of the badge you need. Copy the appropriate ![Name](link) element and paste it in your Markdown file (e.g. README.md) You could also visit the live site at ileriayo.github.io/markdown-badges/
Click on the badge to fill in required data elements for that badge type (like your username or repo) and optionally customize (label, colors etc.). And its ready for use! Use the button at the bottom to copy your badge url or snippet, which can then be added to places like your GitHub readme files or other web pages.
When you participate in certain programs, GitHub automatically displays a badge on your profile. If youre a registered member of the GitHub Developer Program, building an app with the GitHub API, youll get a Developer Program Member badge on your profile.
Usage Press Ctrl + f on your keyboard, to bring out the search modal. Enter the name of the badge you need. Copy the appropriate ![Name](link) element and paste it in your Markdown file (e.g. README.md)
Now the question is how can I add it in my GitHub ReadMe file? It pretty simple. All you have to go and create badges right away.
A badge can be created interactively by visiting the shields.io website and scrolling to the bottom, where 3 fields (corresponding to the options above) allow you to make a badge. (Note, if you wish to use a hex color code with this generator, the # symbol should be omitted.)
As the name suggests, the Most Used Languages badge displays the most common languages used throughout GitHub. It is a GitHub metric of which languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, Go, and more have the most code on GitHub. The languages are listed in descending order.
