The lines on a film script were used to show what coverage has been shot within each scene in this scene only one character Sandra.
You draw your lines left to right in shooting order. If a shot continues to another page an arrow is placed below the line and continues onto the next page. Lined scripts are also called Marked Up Scripts or MUS.
One of the essential jobs of a Script Supervisor is to ensure that on each shooting day, each scene being shot gets full coverage. This means that if you were to add up each of the directors takes, nothings left behind on the page. To keep track of this, the Script Supervisor lines the script during each take.
A lined script is a document created by the script supervisor (AKA scripty) during production. The scripty sits next to the director on set and acts like the eyes and ears of the editor. On the creative front, the scripty takes detailed notes on what the directors says are the best performances (called circle takes).
Solid lines represent action and dialogue on camera during the shot, while squiggly lines indicate off-screen action and dialogue.
A lined script is made up of two types of pages: lined, and facing. The lined pages are probably what you think of when someone refers to a lined script. These pages look like the script except that they have a bunch of squiggly lines drawn through the text.
For those of you that dont know, a lined script is simply a version of your script that has been marked up by the director to indicate when and where coverage occurs. Basic information such as the shot number, shot size, and amount of coverage is indicated very simply by using short form notes.
