The LIMIT clause is used in the SELECT statement to constrain the number of rows in a result set. The LIMIT clause accepts one or two arguments. The values of both arguments must be zero or positive integer constants.
This LIMIT clause would return 3 records in the result set with an offset of 1. What this means is that the SELECT statement would skip the first record that would normally be returned and instead return the second, third, and fourth records.
Offset Limit The maximum number of entries to return. If the value exceeds the maximum, then the maximum value will be used. The maximum offset for offset-based pagination is 9999 . Marker-based pagination is recommended when a higher offset is needed.
The OFFSET , FETCH and LIMIT clauses limit the number of rows obtained when executing a query. Use OFFSET [ ROW | ROWS to skip the first n rows of the result set. Use LIMIT [ ] or FETCH { FIRST | NEXT } [ ] { ROW | ROWS } ONLY to obtain only rows of the result set.
The answer, in short, is yes. If you limit your result to 1, then even if you are expecting one result, the query will be faster because your database wont look through all your records. It will simply stop once it finds a record that matches your query.
The LIMIT clause is used to set an upper limit on the number of tuples returned by SQL.
When you use LIMIT with one argument, this argument will be used to specifies the maximum number of rows to return from the beginning of the result set.
The SQL SELECT LIMIT statement is used to retrieve records from one or more tables in a database and limit the number of records returned based on a limit value. TIP: SELECT LIMIT is not supported in all SQL databases. For databases such as SQL Server or MSAccess, use the SELECT TOP statement to limit your results.
MySQL Offset is used to specify from which row we want the data to retrieve. To be precise, specify which row to start retrieving from. Offset is used along with the LIMIT. Here, LIMIT is nothing but to restrict the number of rows from the output.
The limit option allows you to limit the number of rows returned from a query, while offset allows you to omit a specified number of rows before the beginning of the result set. Using both limit and offset skips both rows as well as limit the rows returned.
