To close the header and footer, you must switch from Page Layout view to Normal view. On the View tab, in the Workbook Views group, click Normal. You can also click Normal on the status bar.
Once youre done editing the header and footer, click anywhere on the worksheet to leave the header or footer area. In the Ribbon, go to View Workbook Views Normal.
You can double-click anywhere outside the header, or, on the right side of the ribbon, you can click the Close Header and Footer button. Either way, the header fades out and the text of your document sharpens up. Your insertion point appears back in the body text, and youre ready to work.
Using the mouse, drag the body text indicator (the small plus sign to the left of the heading) to the right. Drag it far enough that you pass through all nine heading levels, which is necessary before the paragraph is changed to body text.
In the Header Footer Tools, select Design and then Different First Page.Try it! Select Insert Header or Footer. Select one of the built in designs. Type the text you want in the header or footer. Select Close Header and Footer when youre done.
