all right welcome back so remember in the previous lesson we talked about what happened if there are no matches when joining two tables well lets look at this animation again so as you can see we want to join these two tables and then patrick is going to be joined with climbing and code and because there are two rows that are matched you simply have two of the patricks all right so now maria gets paired with star darwin gets paired with apples so what about albert elizabeth and rugby well these actually just get discarded so this is actually an inner join which is the same thing as join because by default join is an inner join well talk about that more later but what if you want to keep them like albert elizabeth and rugby even if there are no matches and one reason you would want to keep them is if you want to count how many things these users like like for example uh patrick likes climbing and coding so thats two things mario likes stars thats one thing and darwin likes apples

The plus sign is Oracle syntax for an outer join. There isnt a minus operator for joins. An outer join means return all rows from one table. Also return the rows from the outer joined where theres a match on the join key. If theres no matching row, return null.
The lateral keyword allows us to access columns after the FROM statement, and reference these columns earlier in the query (earlier meaning written higher in the query). SQL queries run in a different order than you might expect. In fact, FROM and JOIN are the first statements run.
Basically, we have only three types of joins: Inner join, Outer join, and Cross join. We use any of these three JOINS to join a table to itself.
Different types of Joins are as follows: INNER JOIN. LEFT JOIN. RIGHT JOIN. FULL JOIN.
In a FROM clause, the LATERAL keyword allows an inline view to reference columns from a table expression that precedes that inline view.
How to run multiple queries at once, with calculations? Start Time. Query. host=X source=Y.log data available | reverse | head 1 | table time. End Time. Query. Count of Unique Dataset. Query.
The lateral keyword represents a lateral join between two or more tables. It joins the output of the outer query with the output of the underlying lateral subquery. It is like a for-each loop in SQL where the subquery iterates through each row of the concerned table, evaluating the subquery for each row.
The CROSS JOIN keyword returns all records from both tables (table1 and table2).
Using the lateral join Since we dont need to read the whole table, and we only want a few rows from it, this is faster than the seq scan .
CROSS JOIN adds records from both sides of the join, depending on the matching records designated in the ON clause (something like running a LEFT and RIGHT join simultaneously, if that helps). UNION/UNION ALL simply adds data vertically.
