Merging tables by columns. Multiple tables can be merged by columns in SQL using joins. Joins merge two tables based on the specified columns (generally, the primary key of one table and a foreign key of the other).
There are four different types of join operations: (INNER) JOIN: Returns dataset that have matching values in both tables. LEFT (OUTER) JOIN: Returns all records from the left table and matched records from the right. RIGHT (OUTER) JOIN: Returns all records from the right table and the matched records from the left.
A cross join matches all rows in one table to all rows in another table. An inner join matches on a field or fields. If you have one table with 10 rows and another with 10 rows then the two joins will behave differently.
A JOIN operation combines rows from two tables (or other table-like sources, such as views or table functions) to create a new combined row that can be used in the query.
A JOIN clause is used to combine rows from two or more tables, based on a related column between them.
An inner join pairs each row in one table with the matching row(s) in the other table. In this example, the output table contains two columns named ProjectID. One ProjectID column is from the projects table, and one is from the employees table.
We can use the Cartesian product, union, and cross-product to join two tables without a common column.
Basically, we have only three types of joins: Inner join, Outer join, and Cross join. We use any of these three JOINS to join a table to itself.
Example: SQL JOIN. Here, the SQL command selects customerid and firstname columns (from the Customers table) and the amount column (from the Orders table). And, the result set will contain those rows where there is a match between customerid (of the Customers table) and customer (of the Orders table).
A data join is when two data sets are combined in a side by side manner, therefore at least one column in each data set must be the same.
