[Music] hey guys welcome back to tip tuesday my name is matthew sturkey with stonemail log in timber homes before we talk about our tip of the day i wanted you to see this 40-foot full-length log very impressive it also goes along with what were going to discuss today and that is splice joints and splice joints are where two logs come together in a wall system to make up a run of the wall one of the things thats unique about what we do is we use in our log walls up to 40-foot log lengths without a splice we do that to eliminate the unnecessary seams in the house to eliminate the areas that you have to maintain over time and that areas that you have to seal over time and to increase the structural stability so those are reasons for using full-length logs for us other companies do things a little differently some use shorter logs some use butt joints when we do a splice joint we do a mortise and tenon connection which is a tongue and a fork and then we fasten that together so everybody
