If you need to manually join an EC2 instance to your domain, you must launch the instance in the proper Region and security group or subnet, then join the instance to the domain. To be able to connect remotely to these instances, you must have IP connectivity to the instances from the network you are connecting from.
Attach the volume to the new instance by following these steps: Create a snapshot of the root volume. Register a new AMI using the snapshot. Launch a new instance from the new AMI. Detach the remaining Amazon EBS volumes from the old instance. Reattach the Amazon EBS volumes to the new instance.
Join the instance to the directory with the following command. sudo realm join -v -U joinaccount example.com --=/ The sAMAccountName for an account in the example.com domain that has domain join privileges. Enter the password for the account when prompted.
Open the Amazon EC2 console at . In the navigation pane, choose Volumes. Choose Create volume. For Volume type, choose Provisioned IOPS SSD (io1) or Provisioned IOPS SSD (io2). For Size and IOPS, choose the required volume size and the number of IOPS to provision.
EC2 Instances By default, AWS has a limit of 20 instances per region. This includes all instances set up on your AWS account.
Below I have logged in and am on the windows ec2 machine and have clicked on storage tab to find the volume I wish to increase. Click on the storage volume link and it will take you to the storage section on the console. Right click and choose Modify Volume.
You can launch multiple instances from a single AMI when you require multiple instances with the same configuration. You can use different AMIs to launch instances when you require instances with different configurations.
You can attach an available EBS volume to one or more of your instances that is in the same Availability Zone as the volume.

Expanding the EBS volume using the old Amazon EC2 console From the Amazon EC2 console, choose Instances from the navigation pane. Select the instance that you want to expand. Select the volume. In the Size field, enter the Size and IOPS based on the volume type. Choose Modify, and then choose Yes.
