So today lets take a look at using shapes in Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. Now Im going to use Keynote here because it makes more sense to be playing around with shapes on a nice empty canvas like in Keynote. But you can do all the same stuff in Pages if youre making a document. So you can select a shape and there are tons of different shapes. But you can alter these shapes. You can change the lines and points in them. You can also combine shapes which is what Im going to talk about today. For instance lets take something simple like a square and lets add a circle as well. We have two different shapes. Now we can combine these in a variety of different ways. Right now they are two shapes. I can certainly Command click and get both of those. Then I go to Arrange and I can group them t

You can use the Merge Shapes feature to create new, custom shapes from one or more existing shapes. Select a shape. The merged shape will take on the color of the first shape selected, so if you want to keep a particular color, be sure to select that shape first. While holding the Shift key, select another shape.
While all the shapes are selected, select the Pathfinder Tool (displayed below in red). Now select the Unite selection (displayed below in green). Your shapes should now be combined to form a single shape.
Click Shape in the toolbar, then click Draw with Pen. Click anywhere on the page to create the first point of the custom shape. Move the pointer, then click to create another point; continue adding as many points as you want. To create a curved segment, click, drag, then click again.

Merge shapes Select the shapes you want to merge: press and hold the Shift key while you select each shape in turn. On the Shape Format tab, in the Insert Shapes group, select Merge Shapes, and then pick the option you want. Select the Merge option you want.
To mask an image with a shape, click the image to select it, choose Format Image Mask With Shape, then choose a shape. Drag the handles on the shape to adjust its dimensions.
Combining the shapes 1 Using the Selection tool ( ), click on the triangle shape if it is not selected, then Shift+click on the ellipse. 2 Select the Shape Builder tool ( ) in the Tools panel. Click and drag from one shape to another. The triangle and ellipse are combined into one shape.
