To create a custom AMI Choose Launch Instance. Choose Community AMIs. If you identified a base Elastic Beanstalk AMI (using describe-platform-version ) or an Amazon Linux AMI, enter its AMI ID in the search box. Choose Select to select the AMI. Select an instance type, and then choose Next: Configure Instance Details.

Select your AMI in the list, and then choose Actions, Modify Image Permissions. Specify the AWS account ID of the user with whom you want to share the AMI in the AWS Account Number field, then choose Add Permission. To share this AMI with multiple users, repeat this step until you have added all the required users.
A shared AMI is an AMI that a developer created and made available for others to use. One of the easiest ways to get started with Amazon EC2 is to use a shared AMI that has the components you need and then add custom content. You can also create your own AMIs and share them with others.
An AMI owner can determine their instance availability through the following three launch permissions: Public, that grants instance launch permission to all AWS account holders. Explicit, that grants launch permission only to specific AWS accounts. Implicit, where only the AMI owner has permission to launch an instance.
To update an AMI, launch an instance and update its software. For that instance to have access to the AWS services that it needs, create an AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) role with the correct permissions policies attached.
Select your AMI in the list, and then choose Actions, Edit AMI permissions. Choose Private. Under Shared accounts, choose Add account ID. For AWS account ID, enter the AWS account ID with which you want to share the AMI, and then choose Share AMI.
Enable resource sharing within AWS Organizations. When your account is managed by AWS Organizations, you can take advantage of that to share resources more easily. With or without Organizations, a user can share with individual accounts.
