The Tel Dan Stele was a black basalt stele erected by an Aramaean (Syrian) king in northernmost Israel, containing an Aramaic inscription to commemorate his victory over the ancient Hebrews. Fragments of the stele, which has been dated to the ninth or eighth century B.C.E., were discovered at Tel Dan in 1993 and 1994.
In 1993, archaeologists working at Tel Dan in the upper Galilee discovered a stele telling of the stunning victory of Hazael, King of the Arameans, over 70 kings, including the king of the House of David. This was a major find: the oldest mention outside the Bible of the Davidic dynasty.
The city is identified with a tell located in Upper Galilee, northern Israel, known as Tel Dan ( תל דן; Mound of Dan) in Hebrew.
Ketef Hinnom scrolls Probably the oldest surviving texts currently known from the Hebrew Bible priestly blessing dated to 600 BC. Text from the Book of Numbers in the Old Testament. Described as one of most docHub discoveries ever made for biblical studies.
The stele contains several lines of Aramaic, closely related to Hebrew and historically a common language among Jews. The surviving inscription details that an individual killed Jehoram of Israel, the son of Ahab and king of the house of David.
But, in 1993, an Israeli archeologist working near the Syrian border found a fragment of basalt from the ninth century B.C., with an Aramaic inscription that mentioned the House of Davidthe first known reference to one of the Bibles foundational figures. So David is not just a central ancestor in the Old Testament.
