The first flag of the United States was adopted in 1777 out of the colors red, white, and blue. The new country had just declared its independence from Britain, and was made of 13 new states that used to be British colonies. So they decided to put 13 red and white stripes on the flag. And in this blue area of the flag, called the canton, they placed one white star for each of the 13 states in the union: Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island. So this was the first United States flag, with 13 stripes and 13 stars. Eventually, two more states were added to the U.S., so they added two more stripes and, of course, two more stars for Vermont and Kentucky. 15 stripes and 15 stars. But then, soon enough, there were five new states, and people started to realize that if they kept adding more stripes, those stripes were going to get ridiculously skinny. So in 1818, the

In fact, many women with HPV will never have an abnormal pap smear. That being said, routine screening with your provider is the only way to follow any changes to the cervix that could lead to cervical cancer.
A positive test result means that you have a type of high-risk HPV thats linked to cervical cancer. It doesnt mean that you have cervical cancer now, but its a warning sign that cervical cancer could develop in the future.
Early infections or resolving infections with HPV may not reveal any cellular abnormalities. The most common reason for a negative Pap test with a positive HPV result is that the patient has an HPV infection, but the infection is not causing any cellular abnormalities.
On occasion you may see a report from a Pap test or tissue biopsy stating atypical cells present. This might cause you to worry that this means cancer, but atypical cells arent necessarily cancerous. Many factors can make normal cells appear atypical, including inflammation and infection.
A normal (or negative) result means that no cell changes were found on your cervix. This is good news. But you still need to get Pap tests in the future. New cell changes can still form on your cervix. Your doctor may tell you that you can wait three years for your next screening test if you received a Pap test only.
About 5% of all Pap tests will be abnormal, meaning that the sample contains atypical cervical cells. However, the majority of these cells are not cancerous or even precancerous. An abnormal Pap test result does not mean cancer, but it does require follow-up to rule out the possibility of cancer.
Cause. Most abnormal Pap tests are caused by HPV infections. Other types of infectionsuch as those caused by bacteria, yeast, or protozoa (Trichomonas)sometimes lead to minor changes on a Pap test called atypical squamous cells.
ASC-US is the most common abnormal Pap test result. ASC-US stands for atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance. Squamous refers to the type of cells that make up the tissue that covers the cervix. LSILThis means that the cervical cells show changes that are mildly abnormal.
