hello this is kevin from surfing the ether and i just want to say that this is my first ever screencast so please be gentle but what im going to show you today is how to join text data in two separate columns and then join them up to create a third separate column so this is a handy trick that you can use in Excel so Im gonna start off by tapping in the column heading which will be full name and in order to join the first names and last names you use a very simple formula and Im going to type it in so equals Im going to click on a2 which is our first name and now go Im going to use a character called an ampersand so if you look on your keyboard you press shift and you press the number 7 and there is the ampersand and then you click on b2 and press Enter hooray so you see that weve joined our first name and last name but theres a slight problem theres no space in between the first name and last name so what we have to do is to tweak our formula just a little bit and add the spa

Select the cell containing the last name (B2). In our example, your formula should now be: =CONCATENATE (A2, ,B2). 10. Press the Return Key.
Split Names tool - fastest way to separate names in Excel Select any cell containing a name you want to separate and click the Split Names icon on the Ablebits Data tab Text group. Select the desired names parts (all of them in our case) at click Split.
Lets say you want to create a single Full Name column by combining two other columns, First Name and Last Name. To combine first and last names, use the CONCATENATE function or the ampersand () operator.
full name (plural full names) The complete name of a person, including first name, any middle names, and surname.
To join first and last name by merging cells, heres what you do: Select the two columns of names you want to combine. On the Ablebits tab, in the Merge group, click the Merge Cells drop-down arrow, and choose Merge Columns into One: The Merge Cells dialog box will show up. Click the Merge button.
You put your given name in first position and your family name in last position, only capitalizing the first letter of each name, not all the letters.
Legally speaking, your first name is in fact all your forenames together. So, for example, if your full name were John Fred SMITH (your surname being SMITH), then your first name (in full) would be John Fred.
A quick and easier way to Excel extract first name is to use the Text to Column function! All you need to know is first the delimiter between the first and last name. Here, the first and last name is separated by a COMMA (,). This function will get the first and last names split into two separate columns.
