In this tutorial we will learn about the joiner transformer. The Joiner transformer performs a data join which merges two sets of data together using a common field for the join. Lets take a look at the joiner in action. This workspace has been set up to read CSV data of crime information by address; the goal is to match the CSV data to a PostGIS database table of road information so that we can determine which roads show the most crime activity. We will use a joiner to match the block field in the CSV file to the Hblock field in the database table. We can see however that the formatting of the CSV data is not quite matching the postGIS data, so we will address this first in the workspace. In order to match the Hblock values in the database table the XX is replaced with 00 in the CSV block field, using the string replacer transformer, then changed to mixed case by the string case changer. How do you enter a source in Family Tree Maker?

Family Tree Maker has ways to speed up citing the same source multiple times, such as when you find several members of a family in the same household in a census. To cite a source for the first person, highlight the census fact, look under the Sources tab and, in the right panel, select New Add New Source Citation.

How do I merge FTM files?

To merge in a Family Tree Maker File Open the host file in Family Tree Maker. Click File then select Merge from the drop-down. The backup dialog box will open. From the Open dialog box, navigate to and select the file you want to merge into your tree, highlight it, and then click Open. The Merge Wizard will open.

Why do I get duplicates in ancestry?

When people who are biologically related to one another marry each other, they (and some of their descendants) may appear as duplicates in their family tree. This happens because the duplicated people each have two roles in the family, and the tree is inserting them into both roles.

Does FTM sync with FamilySearch?

Note: You cannot merge FamilySearch historical records directly from Family Tree Maker. You can either review a record and attach it to a person using the FamilySearch website, and then merge the data in Family Tree Maker, or use the Web Clipping tool.
