hey everyone in this video we will talk about joining two fact tables using a single dimension tables for slicing and dicing and you can use the same formula for slicing and dicing across multiple dimensions as long as you have got common dimensions between two fact tables so in this diagram ive got two fact tables the internet sales amount and the fact inventory sorry fact product inventory and now ill just show you in the in the reporting tab ive already created a mini table where ive got the color from so the color comes from the fact internet sales table and the sales amount comes from the fact internet sales table however you can see the unit balance is coming from the fact product inventory so when the data is getting filtered from fact internet sales table the filters dont flow into units balance and that is because there is no common table joining uh the two tables or there is no relationship between the two tables so how you can join them is using a common dimension table

Each dimensional table needs to include a primary key that corresponds to a foreign key in the fact table. The fact table should have a primary (composite) key that is a combination of the foreign keys.
Two dimension tables cannot be joined. In the join conditions that are specified in the ON clause, the fields in the dimension table cannot use type conversion functions, such as CAST. If you need to convert data types, perform the conversion on the fields in the source table.
You can create a join between two fact tables and then add that join to the facts object. Before you can create a fact-to-fact join, you must create a facts object and add two or more tables to the facts object.
A typical query in the access layer is a join between the fact table and some number of dimension tables and is often referred to as a star query. In a star query each dimension table is joined to the fact table using a primary key to foreign key join. Normally the dimension tables do not join to each other.
Typically, dimension tables that are shared by multiple fact tables (or multiple dimensional models) are called shared dimensions . If shared dimensions already exist for any of the dimensions in the data warehouse or dimensional model, you should use the shared dimensions.
You will need create a relationship between your Fact table(s) by adding the new dimensions key column to the Fact table(s). There is nothing to prevent you from specifying that the new column in the Fact table(s) can allow NULLS, or you can specify a default value.
A fact table works with dimension tables. A fact table holds the data to be analyzed, and a dimension table stores data about the ways in which the data in the fact table can be analyzed. Thus, the fact table consists of two types of columns.
Each dimensional table needs to include a primary key that corresponds to a foreign key in the fact table. The fact table should have a primary (composite) key that is a combination of the foreign keys.
