Nov 8, 2021 by Robert Gravelle. Have you ever seen a WHERE 1=1 condition in a SELECT query. I have, within many different queries and across many SQL engines. The condition obviously means WHERE TRUE, so its just returning the same query result as it would without the WHERE clause.
JOIN is an SQL clause used to query and access data from multiple tables, based on logical relationships between those tables. In other words, JOINS indicate how SQL Server should use data from one table to select the rows from another table.
The statement where 1=1 in SQL means true. It is the same operation as running the select statement without the where clause. You might ask, what is the purpose of the clause where 1=1? In most cases, you will only need to use this clause when you need to build dynamic SQL statements.
Four types of joins: left, right, inner, and outer.
4 Ways to Join Only The First Row in SQL Use Correlated Subqueries when the foreign key is indexed. Use a Complete Subquery when you dont have indexes. Use Nested Subqueries if you have an ordered ID column. Use Nested Subqueries if you have an ordered ID column. Use Window Functions if you need more control.
Using where 1=1 reduces the complexity of the code needed in dynamic sql where clause generation. Otherwise, when creating the where clause you would need to check if this is the first component for each component added.
It just ensures the join will return a match -- 1=1 is the same as true . Given the subquery, it will only return a single row -- min(modified) . That value will be combined to the other joins. Almost acts like a cross join , but with only a single value.
SELECT TOP 1 Means Selecting the very 1st record in the result set. SELECT 1 Means return 1 as the result set.
