Facebook. Many local, smaller meets are posted on Facebook events. Just search powerlifting [city name] under the events section on Facebook. Local Powerlifting Community. While there are likely to be a few official meets near you, there are often some smaller unofficial meets put on by local powerlifting gyms.
Beginners should bench and squat two, maybe three, times a week and deadlift around one time a week. Every week, adding a little more weight, while trying to get better and more efficient. For the first three to six months, you should be able to add some kind of weight almost every week.
Get A Membership with the Powerlifting Association USPA and USAPL both require you to be a member in order to compete. Their forms can be found here for USPA and here for USAPL.

Membership: Most powerlifting federations require competitors to be registered members of the federation in good standing. Youll need to pay a membership fee and possibly show proof of your membership at the time of registration. Age: Powerlifting meets may have different divisions based on age groups.
For men, Ive often suggested being able to squat double bodyweight, deadlift twice bodyweight and be able to bench press above bodyweight as a starting point when thinking about competing. For women, I like to recommend an above bodyweight squat, a 100kg deadlift and at least a half bodyweight bench press.
You can expect to pay anywhere from $25 to $100 for a local meet registration. Yes, you have to pay to be able to pay to lift. So, if you compete once a year, you are looking at about a MINIMUM of $100 just for registration fees.
