Different Types of SQL JOINs (INNER) JOIN : Returns records that have matching values in both tables. LEFT (OUTER) JOIN : Returns all records from the left table, and the matched records from the right table.
A join table (collection) contains common fields from two or more other tables (collections). It helps to create a many-to-many relationship.
Add a join If you dont see a relationship between the sources, add a join. Drag from the field you want in one data source to the corresponding field in another data source. The table you drag from is the table that will appear on the left in the Join Properties dialog box. By default, Access creates an inner join.
Joins are to queries what relationships are to tables: an indication of how data in two sources can be combined based on data values they have in common. Heres an illustration of a join in query Design View, with the joins properties open in a dialog box: This line between the tables represents the join.
An outer join returns all the rows from one table and the matching rows from another table. When performing a natural outer join, if a row in one table does not have a matching row in the other table, it will still be included in the result set, with NULL values in the columns from the table with no matching row.
SQL RIGHT OUTER JOIN creates a result table and includes into it all the records from the right table and only matching rows from the left table. SQL SELF JOIN joins the table to itself and allows comparing rows within the same table.
Youll use INNER JOIN when you want to return only records having pair on both sides, and youll use LEFT JOIN when you need all records from the left table, no matter if they have pair in the right table or not.
What is the Difference Between Cross Join and Inner Join? An inner join matches all records between tables but only returns matching values. It is the intersection of two tables. The cross join will display all the rows of both tables.
