Students can also opt to take AP courses at a different high school if their high school does not offer it. Students can take AP exams without being enrolled in an AP class. They just have to find a school at which to write it.
The College Board does not require a teacher to have any special qualifications to teach AP classes, but there are certain training resources that it highly suggests teachers of these classes participate in.
Costs for specific courses are available at collegeboard.org/startapcourse. Starting an AP course can cost less than $2,000. Your schools existing resources may docHubly reduce these costs.

How to Get Started Sign In to AP Classroom. If youre teaching an AP class for the first time, your AP Course Audit form must first be submitted and approved. Get Your Join Codes. Each AP class section that you teach has a unique join code that allows your students to join the class in AP Classroom. Create Class Sections.
When you first enroll in a class section in My AP, youre assigned a unique eight-digit alphanumeric code that serves as your official AP identifier for the exam administration. We use this code, called your AP ID, to associate you with your scores. The AP ID you receive is permanent.
If your high school doesnt offer a specific AP course like calculus or physics (or any at all), you can take AP courses online or at a local college (youd just need to find out if there are any approved dual enrollment programs at colleges in your area.)
To create exam only sections in AP Registration and Ordering, go to the Courses page. Youll see a list of the AP Course Audit-approved AP courses at your school. If a course isnt listed for an exam only section you need to create, click + Add Course.
Instructions Get your join code(s). Your AP teacher will give you a join code so you can join their class section online. Sign in to My AP. Sign in to My AP with your College Board login information. Choose to join a course. Click the Join a Course or Exam button. Enter your join code. Check the course information.
