A joint is the part of the body where two or more bones meet to allow movement. Every bone in the body except for the hyoid bone in the throat meets up with at least one other bone at a joint. The shape of a joint depends on its function. A joint is also known as an articulation.
The purpose of JOINs in SQL is to access data from multiple tables based on logical relationships between them. JOINS are used to fetch data from database tables and represent the result dataset as a separate table.
You join two tables by creating a relationship in the WHERE clause between at least one column from one table and at least one column from another. The join creates a temporary composite table where each pair of rows (one from each table) that satisfies the join condition is linked to form a single row.
Multicolumn subqueries cannot use the , = comparison operators. They can use , != , and = operators. WHERE and HAVING clause subqueries must use Boolean comparison operators: =, ,
To use the WHERE clause to perform the same join as you perform using the INNER JOIN syntax, enter both the join condition and the additional selection condition in the WHERE clause. The tables to be joined are listed in the FROM clause, separated by commas.
The advantage of a join includes that it executes faster. The retrieval time of the query using joins almost always will be faster than that of a subquery. By using joins, you can minimize the calculation burden on the database i.e., instead of multiple queries using one join query.
A JOIN clause is used to combine rows from two or more tables, based on a related column between them. Notice that the CustomerID column in the Orders table refers to the CustomerID in the Customers table. The relationship between the two tables above is the CustomerID column.
Basically, we have only three types of joins: Inner join, Outer join, and Cross join. We use any of these three JOINS to join a table to itself.
Joins and subqueries are often used together in the same query. In many cases, you can solve a data retrieval problem by using a join, a subquery, or both.
Rewriting Subqueries as JOINS A subquery using IN can be rewritten with the DISTINCT keyword, for example: SELECT * FROM table1 WHERE col1 IN (SELECT col1 FROM table2); can be rewritten as: SELECT DISTINCT table1.
