Each co-owner of a joint account is insured up to $250,000 for the combined amount of his or her interests in all joint accounts at the same IDI. In determining a co-owner's interest in a joint account, the FDIC assumes each co-owner is an equal owner unless the IDI records clearly indicate otherwise.
The money in joint accounts belongs to both owners. Either person can withdraw or spend the money at will — even if they weren't the one to deposit the funds. The bank makes no distinction between money deposited by one person or the other, making a joint account useful for handling shared expenses.
The individual in whose name a credit card account is created. You are solely liable for all transactions on the account, including any secondary cards.
Some examples of times when a joint bank account makes sense are: Couples who manage their money together and share household expenses. Adult children sharing a joint bank account with elderly parents. Business partners sharing a joint business account to cover expenses and payroll.
FDIC does not consider nondeposit assets in calculating deposit insurance coverage. In general, the owner of a revocable trust account is insured up to $250,000 per each primary beneficiary.
The bottom line Any individual or entity that has more than $250,000 in deposits at an FDIC-insured bank should see to it that all monies are federally insured.

The primary cardholder is the main person on the account. They are also known as the borrower. The secondary cardholder is the co-borrower on the account. One would be considered the primary and the other would be the secondary.
Can I do that? Generally, no. In most cases, either state law or the terms of the account provide that you usually cannot remove a person from a joint checking account without that person's consent, though some banks may offer accounts where they explicitly allow this type of removal.
What is needed to open a joint checking account is the same as what is needed to open a regular checking out. These items include proof of identification of both individuals, personal identification such as Social Security numbers, proof of address, and possibly cash to fund the account.
