An AMI owner can determine their instance availability through the following three launch permissions: Public, that grants instance launch permission to all AWS account holders. Explicit, that grants launch permission only to specific AWS accounts. Implicit, where only the AMI owner has permission to launch an instance.
Encryption and keys – You can share AMIs that are backed by unencrypted and encrypted snapshots. The encrypted snapshots must be encrypted with a KMS key. You can't share AMIs that are backed by snapshots that are encrypted with the default AWS managed key. For more information, see Share an Amazon EBS snapshot.
You can launch multiple instances from a single AMI when you require multiple instances with the same configuration. You can use different AMIs to launch instances when you require instances with different configurations.
Find a shared AMI (console) Open the Amazon EC2 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/ . In the navigation pane, choose AMIs. In the first filter, choose Private images. All AMIs that have been shared with you are listed.
To begin sharing and scanning your AMI with self-service scanning. Navigate to https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/management/manage-products/ . Select the AMI to share. View your scan results.
If you know the account IDs of the AWS accounts you want to share the AMI with, you can share the AMI by following the instructions at Share an AMI with specific AWS accounts. To copy the shared AMI, see Cross-account copying. Note: Sharing an AMI from different Regions is not available.

Choose a private image to launch, choose Create New Private Image. In the Create New Private Image section, for Select a base AMI to use, choose Owned by me, Public Images, or Private images.
