Hi, Im Erica Gamet with InDesign Secrets. In this video, Im going to show you a quick way to italicize text thats currently inside quotation marks. And Im going to show you how to automate that process using the Find/Change dialog box and the power of GREP. Now before you get too scared Im going to show you that GREP really isnt that scary and that it can also make your job much easier. In this paragraph we have some quoted text that should be in italics. So lets go to the Find/Change dialog box using Command- or Control-F. And were going to click on the GREP tab and enter what were looking for in the Find What field. Now with GREP we dont need to know specific text like we would inside the text tab, just the type of text were looking for. In this case, we know that were looking for some opening quotes, followed by some text, followed by closing quotes. InDesign has a secret menu where the GREP expressions are hidden. Its over here under the @ symbol. So were going to

A very descriptive title that summarizes the prompt would work fine, as long as your essay is strong. Relatedly, you dont need to include the essay question or prompt at the top of your essay. The scholarship committee will know what the topic or prompt is! (Want inspiration from winners?
Think of your scholarship name as the headline to an ad. In general, when naming a scholarship, keep it short and to the point. This helps people understand the purpose of the scholarship right away. You may also find it easier for people to remember your scholarship if it has a shorter name.
Recommended fonts include: Arial, Calibri, Tahoma, Times New Roman and Verdana. Do not use a script or cute style font. Do not use a font that is too small or too large. If a font size is not specified in the instructions, use a size between 10 and 12 points for the body of your essay and 14 points for the heading.
1-1.5 margins (top, bottom, and side) Indent every paragraph or insert a blank line in between each paragraph to set them apart. Insert your last name and page number (for longer essays) on the top left. You may also choose to sign your name at the end of your scholarship essay.
Do I need a title for my scholarship essay? Unless the prompt asks you specifically for a title, you dont need to add one. That being said, if you come up with a title that builds upon your essay or helps it to stand out, its fine to include it. Just remember that its also fine to include no title at all.
Scholarship Essay Tips Choose a topic you are passionate about. Follow a narrative structure. Re-read the essay prompt and identify the key themes. Outline your essay before writing. Make sure your outline does justice to your scholarship essay prompt. Look out for grammatical errors. Add your real-life experiences.
In the top left-hand corner of the paper include a heading. A standard scholarship essay heading should include your name, your contact information, the name of the scholarship, and the date. While not necessary, it can be helpful to include a title or the essay prompt at the top of your essay as well.
Essay Format: Double spaced. 12 point Times New Roman font (Arial and Verdana is also okay). 1-1.5 margins (top, bottom, and side) Indent every paragraph or insert a blank line in between each paragraph to set them apart. Insert your last name and page number (for longer essays) on the top left. Titles are optional.
That means using 1-inch page margins, 12-point font size double-spaced (or 1.5 spaced), and a standard font like Times New Roman in classic (default) black. Dont get creative with fonts or colors here. You want the content of your essay to be what stands out, rather than your unorthodox formatting.
Unless the scholarship essay instructions specifically state that you must include your name in your paper, dont start your essay by introducing yourself. It not only seems a bit juvenile, but may also disqualify you from advancing. Most scholarship committees conduct blind readings.
