[Music] hello everyone how are you doing this is MD thank you have another quick tutorial today Im going to show you guys how to italicize text on your Microsoft Word document so this is pretty straightforward and were going to jump right into it so depending on whether were trying to do it just for a certain area or the entire body of the paper it really depends so if youre just doing it for a little area I recommend just left clicking on your mouse pointer and then drag it over the area you want to italicize so lets say the entire first paragraph here if you wanted to do the entire paper Id recommend tapping on the ctrl + a key that will select the entire document so you just do a quick tap on the control and the a key at the same time so use two different fingers so hold on the control in the a key that will highlight the entire document and then once youve done that you can go up to the top left if youre underneath the Home tab so you want to shoot underneath the Home tab

Style guides that prescribe the use of italics, such as The Chicago Manual of Style or the AMA Manual of Style, say that titles of such works should be put into italics when appearing in text. Some writers still use underlining if italicizing is not an option, but generally its considered outdated.
Italics and underlines can be used interchangeably, but not at the same time. When typing, we use italics and underlines to identify titles of larger works, magazines, books, poems, newspapers, journals, etc. Italics are used when typing, while underlines are used when writing.
Underlined and bolded words or phrases are often used throughout a work to emphasize specifically defined terms, sections, chapter headings, subheads, table entries, etc. Italics and quotation marks are used to indicate the titles of creative works, like books, magazine articles, and movies.
Italics should not be used for the titles of short works, such as poems, articles, short stories, or song namesall of which use quotation marks instead. The names of geographic locations and religious texts use neither italics nor quotes, but theyre still capitalized.
With Words Auto-Formatting feature, called AutoCorrect, you can set your auto formats so that you dont have to do everything. For example, you can auto-format underline, italics, or bold type on a particular word or phrase so that each time you type it in, MS Word will automatically do it for you.
Italics is when a typeface is slanted to the right. Like this! Italics are used to distinguish words from other parts of the text and draw attention.
Italics are typically used to show emphasis (For example: I dont care what he thinks. I do what I want!) or to indicate titles of stand-alone works (Black Panther, Lost in Translation). Different style guides have different rules about what to italicize.
What is the purpose of italics? Italics are used primarily to denote titles and names of particular works or objects in order to allow that title or name to stand out from the surrounding sentence. Italics may also be used for emphasis in writing, but only rarely.
Most commonly, italics are used for emphasis or contrast that is, to draw attention to some particular part of a text.
