The TIFF file formats use 32-bit offsets, which limits file size to around 4 GiB. Some implementations even use a signed 32-bit offset, running into issues around 2 GiB. BigTIFF is a TIFF variant file format which uses 64-bit offsets and supports much larger files (up to 18 exabytes in size).
TIFF R files contain three image channels (RGB). PCI support for TIFF files includes the following bit depths: 8U, 16S, 16U, 32S, 32U, 32R, 64S, 64U, 64R, C16S, C32S, C32R. Additionally, PCI can read and create 1 bit rasters in a TIFF as bitmaps.
Different size monitors will have different resolutions. A large monitor might have a large resolution of 2500 pixels wide whilst smaller screens will be around 1200 pixels wide. Most headers are set up to use the full width of the page. The height generally for a home page header is around 600 pixels high.
TIFF is an image file format. In this document, a file is defined to be a sequence of 8-bit bytes, where the bytes are numbered from 0 to N. The largest possible TIFF file is 2**32 bytes in length. A TIFF file begins with an 8-byte image file header that points to an image file directory (IFD).
The TIFF specification defines a framework for an Image File Header (IFH), Image File Directories (IFDs), and associated bitmaps. Each IFD and its associated bitmap are sometimes called a TIFF subfile. There is no limit to the number of subfiles a TIFF image file may contain.
The first way to reduce TIFF file size is with color reduction. TIFF images support various color modes and bit depths. Choosing the appropriate color mode and bit depth can make a big difference in file size. TIFF images can be color, indexed color, grayscale, or monochrome (black and white).
Each tag structure is 12 bytes in size and, in the sample code above, is represented by an array of structures of the data type de nition TIFTAG. (See the next section for more information on TIFF tags.) The number of tags per IFD is limited to 65,535.
Tiff files are designed for high-quality publications, and therefore normally are saved at higher resolutions, usually 150-300 ppi. Jpg files are designed for the internet, and therefore saved at lower resolutions, usually 72 ppi.
