Generally and grammatically speaking, put titles of shorter works in quotation marks but italicize titles of longer works. For example, put a song title in quotation marks but italicize the title of the album it appears on.
Italics are used primarily to denote titles and names of particular works or objects in order to allow that title or name to stand out from the surrounding sentence. Italics may also be used for emphasis in writing, but only rarely.
Album/CD recording names are italicized. Individual songs are set in quotation marks.
Song titles will be placed inside quote marks. Though they are in many ways standalone sources by themselves, they are relatively short and usually are parts of a larger whole (i.e. the overall music album, which does get italicized).
Musical works The names of operas and musicals are italicized. Individual songs and arias are set in quotation marks: Handels Messiah includes the well-known Hallelujah chorus.
To make the selected characters italic, select Ctrl+I. The characters are displayed in italic type. In writing for customers, use regular type to describe type thats neither bold nor italic.
Titles of short poems or short stories are put in quotation marks. The larger collection they belong to is italicised: Example: The Song of Myself appears in Walt Whitmans poetry collection Leaves of Grass.
Double quotation marks are used for direct quotations and titles of compositions such as books, plays, movies, songs, lectures and TV shows. They also can be used to indicate irony and introduce an unfamiliar term or nickname. Single quotation marks are used for a quote within a quote.
