Terms to italicize include in forma pauperis and inter alia. Terms not to italicize include arguendo, e.g., i.e., in limine, prima facie, pro hac vice, pro se, quantum meruit, and res judicata.
Using Italics for Foreign Words and Phrases Italicize such foreign words and phrases as terra incognita, in vivo, and inter alia; however, if the word or phrase is commonly used in your field (e.g., in situ, et al., ad hoc, ab initio), you may omit the italics.
Common Latin (or other) abbreviations or words should not be italicized, including cf., e.g., ad hoc, i.e., per se, inter alia, vis--vis and de facto. 5.
The phrase per se does not have to be italicized. A general rule of thumb is that if the foreign word is in an English dictionary, you do not need to italicize it. Use italics for foreign words that have not been integrated into the English language.
Italicize titles of journals, magazines and newspapers. Do not italicize the titles of articles. Capitalize only the first letter of the first word of the article title. If there is a colon in the article title, also capitalize the first letter of the first word after the colon.

In the footnotes follow the Harvard Bluebook. Foreign words NOT commonly used in English: Italicize cognito, sans plus, res ipsa, jus ad bellum, jus in bello, inter alia, but ad hoc, per se, et al., de facto, vis--vis, e.g. (e.g. is italicized in footnotes as an intro signal).
