Italics and Capitalization: Titles of works of art are capitalized and go in italics (Mona Lisa), unless the title has been assigned to the work to describe what it is (e.g., Standing Figure), in which case only caps are required. Book, exhibition and website titles are capitalized and italicized.
*Note: For images without titles, create a descriptive title in plain text no italics, no quotes. Capitalize only the first word and any proper nouns. *Note: Italicize titles of formal art work and include the date of creation after the title with a period.
Italics are used for large works, names of vehicles, and movie and television show titles. Quotation marks are reserved for sections of works, like the titles of chapters, magazine articles, poems, and short stories.
After the date, add the title of the Photograph. The title should follow the general capitalization rule that says to capitalize the first word of the title and subtitle as well as proper nouns. The title should be italicized.
Title of the photo: Titles are italicized when independent. If part of a larger source add quotation marks and do not italize. Year of creation: Give the year of publication as presented in the source.
Each illustration must include a label, a number, a caption and/or source information. The illustration label and number should always appear in two places: the document main text (e.g. see fig. 1) and near the illustration itself (Fig. 1).
Italics are used primarily to denote titles and names of particular works or objects in order to allow that title or name to stand out from the surrounding sentence. Italics may also be used for emphasis in writing, but only rarely.
A general rule of thumb is that within the text of a paper, italicize the title of complete works but put quotation marks around titles of parts within a complete work.
