To freeze the top row or first column: From the View tab, Windows Group, click the Freeze Panes drop down arrow. Select either Freeze Top Row or Freeze First Column.
To change the text for a row or column heading: Double-click the heading you want to change. The Header Text dialog appears, as shown below. Enter one or more lines of text to serve as the heading name. Click OK.
