Font sizes of between 10 and 12 and standard publishing fonts such as Times New Roman and Century are preferred. The convention is to single-space your type, skip lines between each paragraph, and either consistently choose no indentation for paragraphs or indent each paragraph one-half inch.
Ensure line and paragraph spaces are aligned properly. Set the font size to 11 or 12. Make sure you keep a 1-inch margin on the page. Font color should always be black on a white background.
ERAS Letter of Recommendation Sample Another point is font. Elegant and curve styles may look flashy and attractive. However, it does not look professional. Remember that for letters of recommendation ERAS prefers using Times New Roman or Arial font of 10pt.
The letter should be about one page in length and generally consist of three parts: opening, body, and closing. The writer should explain the relationship between himself/herself and the candidate as well as why the letter is being written.
Recommended serif fonts include Cambria, Georgia, and Times New Roman. Sans serif fonts dont have small strokes attached to their letters, giving them a cleaner and more modern style. Some recommended sans serif fonts include Arial, Calibri, and Verdana.
Keep it formal and concise. Use a business letter format using a twelve point font size in either Arial or Times New Roman. Write your letter on your business or organization letterhead if possible. The recipient likely reads dozens if not hundreds of letters, so keep yours concise and to the point.
Structurally, your recommendation letter should be roughly one page in length, with an introduction, about two or three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Maintain a formal tone throughout the letter, and format it as you would a standard business letter.
