Word allows you fine-tune the line and paragraph spacing in your documents. In this example, Iamp;#39;d like to start by changing the line spacing, which is the space between each line of text. Start by selecting some text, and then in the Paragraph group, click the Line and Paragraph Spacing command. By default, the line spacing is 1.08, so if you change it to 1.0, the lines will be a little closer together, and if you choose 2.0 theyamp;#39;ll be double-spaced. But if you want to have more precise control, click Line Spacing Options. There are two things that you can change: the line-spacing mode and the amount. When the mode is set to Multiple, you can type in the number of lines of spacing you want. The default is 1.08, so we might change it to something like 1.25 to spread the lines out a little bit. If youamp;#39;re more accustomed to measuring in points, like with font sizes, you can select Exactly. Usually, youamp;#39;ll want the spacing to be a little bit larger than the f

Youve probably read first-person prose where thoughts are written in italics to distinguish them from the narration. For example: I couldnt believe she was leaving. Ill never see her again.
5 Tips for Writing in First Person Narrative Reveal new information to the reader and POV character at the same time. Layer the characters voice into every line. Vary your sentence structure. Dont spend too long in your characters head. Try opening with a belief or opinion from the protagonist.
Normally, Id recommend italicizing brief thoughts that truly feel like dialogue on the tip of a characters tongue, even in a first-person narration. Im talking about those things they almost utter but dontlike: I dont think so, pal or Not in my opinionin response to someone standing right there with them.
Industry standard punctuation for internal dialogue is to eliminate quotation marks since the words are not spoken but to set it in italics so that it stands apart from the narration. Consider this line of narration followed by internal dialogue.
Italicize titles of journals, magazines and newspapers. Do not italicize the titles of articles. Capitalize only the first letter of the first word of the article title. If there is a colon in the article title, also capitalize the first letter of the first word after the colon.
One of the most common solutions for how to indicate a character is thinking is to format character thoughts in italics. This technique is especially useful for dialogue-heavy scenes where the reader needs to quickly distinguish between spoken words and internal musings, or reaction beats to whats happening.
7 Rules For Italics Emphasis. Want a word or phrase to stand out in a block of text? Titles Of Work. The titles of works should be italicized (or underlined). Articles. Foreign Words. Names Of Trains, Ships, Spaceships. Words As Reproduced Sounds. Words As Words.
The italics let the reader know that the prologue is a sort of preamble to the main work. Interludes or other small sections that occur between chapters may also be in Page 3 2/26/05 bh 054 Page 3 italics if they are also outside the main thread of the work. The same goes for epilogues at the end of the piece.
