In this lesson you will learn how to specify titles and footnotes, change titles and footnotes, and delete titles and footnotes. Perhaps youve already noticed that, by default, all the reports you create using SAS include the title, The SAS System centered at the top of the report. And in certain file formats there is a date-time stamp and page number in the top right hand corner of the report. But, often times adding a title of your choosing to your reports can make them more meaningful, and can help you stay better organized. A footnote is a reference placed at the bottom of a page or footer. They are referenced in the text in the same way as a citation i.e. the referenced text is followed by a superscript numeral (1), which corresponds to the numbered footnote at the bottom of the page.
Using footnotes or endnotes involves placing a superscript number at the end of a sentence with information (paraphrase, quotation or data) that you wish to cite. The superscript numbers should generally be placed at the end of the sentence to which they refer.
[The information given in a footnote includes the author, the title, the place of publication, the publisher, the date of publication and the page or pages on which the quotation or information is found.]
Footnote or endnote numbers in the text should follow punctuation, and preferably be placed at the end of a sentence. When citing the source for a quotation, the number should be placed at the end of the quotation and not after the authors name if that appears first in the text.
Footnotes (sometimes just called notes) are what they sound likea note (or a reference to a source of information) which appears at the foot (bottom) of a page. In a footnote referencing system, you indicate a reference by: Putting a small number above the line of type directly following the source material.
The footnote contains the number of the citation followed by a period and then the citation itself. The citation always includes the authors name and the title of the text, and it always ends with a period. Full notes also include all the relevant publication information in parentheses (which varies by source type).
Use quotation marks around titles of works that are published within other works, such as chapter titles of books, articles in periodicals, and essays within other works. All punctuation must be enclosed within the quotation marks. Single quota- tion marks are used for a quotation within the quoted title.
Answer. You can mention the title of a book without needing to cite it on the References page.
Click where you want to reference to the footnote or endnote. On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote. Enter what you want in the footnote or endnote. Return to your place in the document by double-clicking the number or symbol at the beginning of the note.
If you include a quotation in the title of your paper, you should discuss the quotation in the body of your essay. Do not place a parenthetical citation or an endnote with source information after the title. Instead, cite the quotation where it occurs in your essay.
