Releases are deployable software iterations you can package and make available for a wider audience to download and use. Releases are based on Git tags, which mark a specific point in your repositorys history. A tag date may be different than a release date since they can be created at different times.
Best Practices for Reviewing Pull Requests in GitHub Respect Peoples Time. Always Provide Constructive Feedback. Keep Your Ego Out of Code Reviews. Be Precise About What Needs to be Improved. Dont Just Hope for the Code to Work. Reinforce Code Submission Best Practices. Be Strict About Temporary Code.
Submitting your review On the pull request, click Files changed. Above the changed code, click Review changes. Type a comment summarizing your feedback on the proposed changes. Select Comment to leave general feedback without explicitly approving the changes or requesting additional changes.
That is, if the last post was a comment or answer, then the recipient (who doesnt otherwise respond) should mark the conversation as resolved (as an acknowledgement of the last post and in lieu of any other response).
They are very similar, the difference being that tags are just the repository frozen in time and are part of Git (you can make a tag inside of Git), but releases are tags accompanied with a binary file and are not part of Git (youd need to go to your Codeberg repository page to add the binary).
On GitHub.com, navigate to the main page of the repository. To the right of the list of files, click Releases. At the top of the Releases page, click Releases.
To add review comments, click the + icon next to the line number. Type your review comment and then click Start Review. When you are finished adding review comments, from the Side Bar you can choose to either submit the comments, approve the changes, or request changes.
Definition. A tag is a pointer to a specific commit, that is, each tag corresponds to a specific commit. A release is a first-level object with changelogs and binaries that represents the history of a project up to a specific point in time beyond the Git schema itself.
If a reviewer says that they dont understand something in your code, your first response should be to clarify the code itself. If the code cant be clarified, add a code comment that explains why the code is there. If a comment seems pointless, only then should your response be an explanation in the code review tool.
To reply to an existing line comment, youll need to navigate to the comment on either the Conversation tab or Files changed tab and add an additional line comment below it. Tips: Pull request comments support the same formatting as regular comments on GitHub, such as @mentions, emoji, and references.
