To create a new file: From Google Drive, locate and select the New button, then choose the type of file you want to create. In our example, well select Google Docs to create a new document. Your new file will appear in a new tab on your browser. The Rename dialog box will appear. Your file will be renamed.
You can use Microsoft Word on a Chromebook, but youll have to download it in the Google Play Store. Once you log into your Microsoft Office account on your Chromebook, youll have access to all of your previously saved documents. Heres how to set up Microsoft Word on a Chromebook.
Visit the Chrome Web Store on your Chromebook. Open the Extensions tab in the side menu, and use its search feature to locate Microsoft Office Online. Download and the extension on your Chromebook. You can then create, edit and view Word files from the Chrome browser.

You will need to add the following Chrome extension: Office Editing for Docs, Sheets Slides. After adding this extension, Microsoft files will open from your Chromebooks storage in your browser in Office Compatibility Mode. You can then save them as a Google file (docs, sheets, slides) in your Drive.
Open your Chrome browser and go to the Chrome Web Store. In the search bar, type Microsoft Office and press Enter. From the search results, click on the specific Office app you want to download (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint). On the app page, click on the button.
To insert a text box: Click Insert, then select Drawing from the drop-down menu. The Drawing dialog box will appear. Click the Text box command. Click and drag in the drawing area to create the text box.
On your Chromebook, you can open, edit, download and save Microsoft 365 files, such as Word, PowerPoint or Excel files.
