So sometimes you need to type characters that you cant find on your keyboard. Sometimes these are simple variations of the characters like adding an accent mark to a letter. Other times these are special symbols or even an emoji. There are many different ways to access these special characters. First lets look at doing simple accent marks and character variations. The simplest way to type these is simply hold down the key thats closest to the what you want to type. For instance if you want to type an accent mark over the letter n, just hold down the n key and you will be presented with variations. So Im going to show you examples here u

Choosing the Unicode Hex Input method alters the behaviour of the option key. To place U+03B1 into your document, hold down the option key and while holding it down tap the four keys 0, 3, b, and 1 in sequence. On pressing the last of the four, the character appears; you can then release the option key.
You can insert the approximately equal symbol by holding the Alt key while typing 247 on your numeric keypad.
While holding the Option key, type the letter x on your keyboard. The approximately symbol () should appear at the cursor position in your document or text field [1].
Use the keyboard shortcut: Press and hold the Option key (also known as the Alt key) on your MacBook Airs keyboard. While holding the Option key, press the n key. This will produce a tilde accent mark over an empty space.
Use the Character Viewer to search for and insert emoji, symbols, characters from other languages, and more. Press Fn-E or. -E, or choose Edit Emoji Symbols. Click a character or symbol to add it to your text (or double-click it if the Character Viewer is expanded).
You can use the Character Viewer to add special characters and symbols to text, such as math symbols, Latin characters, and pictographs. Click in the text where you want to place the character, then choose Edit Emoji Symbols (or press Control-Command-Space bar). The Character Viewer appears where you clicked.
