In the comment toolbar, select Insert suggestion ( ). GitLab inserts a pre-populated code block into your comment, like this: ```suggestion:-0+0 The content of the line you selected is shown here.
In the comment field, type your comment. Optionally, to suggest a specific change to the line or lines, click , then edit the text within the suggestion block. To comment directly on a file, to the right of the file, click and type your comment.
In the list of pull requests, click the pull request youd like to apply a suggested change to. Navigate to the first suggested change youd like to apply. To apply the change in its own commit, click Commit suggestion. To add the suggestion to a batch of changes, click Add suggestion to batch.
A change request is a copy of your main content. It comes from the simple concept of branching, and will feel familiar to anyone who uses pull requests in GitHub or merge requests in GitLab.
The git push command is used to upload local repository content to a remote repository. Pushing is how you transfer commits from your local repository to a remote repo. Its the counterpart to git fetch, but whereas fetching imports commits to local branches, pushing exports commits to remote branches.
To do this, click and hold the + sign next to the first line you want to suggest changing, then drag the + sign to the last line you want to suggest changing.
Commits should be pushed every day, at an absolute minimum. Ideally youre pushing after every commit, multiple times a day. I know developers dont want to commit or push half-finished work, with failing tests, etc. I get it.
After you add changes to a topic branch or fork, you can open a pull request to ask your collaborators or the repository administrator to review your changes before merging them into the project.
