Your doctor has recommended that you undergo a balloon angioplasty with a stent implant. But what does that actually mean? The heart is located in the center of the chest. Itamp;#39;s job is to keep blood continually circulating throughout the body. The blood vessels that supply the body with oxygen-rich blood are called arteries. The arteries that supplies blood to the heart muscle itself are called coronary arteries. Sometimes, these blood vessels can narrow or become blocked by plaque deposits, restricting normal blood flow. In simple terms, a balloon angioplasty with stent insertion is a procedure used to increase the amount of blood flowing through the coronary artery. During a balloon angioplasty, a heart specialist will insert a thin tube into an artery in your arm or leg and gently guide it towards the problem area in your heart. Once the tube is in place, a small balloon is briefly inflated in order to widen the narrowed artery. A short length of mesh tubing called a stent is

Diagnostic tests and procedures Computed tomography angiography (CTA) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) take pictures of your blood vessels. These tests may give your provider more information about blood flow and whether arteries are narrowed or have aneurysms.
Can you mix stain with polyurethane? Of course you can.
When the walls are weak, the force of the blood pushing through can cause an aneurysm or balloon-like bulge in the aorta. The stent graft supports the weak area of the aorta and helps to prevent the aneurysm from bursting or tearing the wall of the artery (dissection).
If you have a blocked artery in your heart, legs, or neck, you may need a stent to keep your blood flowing to prevent serious problems. Lets talk today about stents. A stent is a tiny tube we place in an artery, blood vessel, or other duct (such as the one that carries urine) to hold the tubes open.
To place the stent, a small sheath, plastic tube, is placed in the groin or wrist artery. A catheter is guided through the artery into the part of the coronary artery that is blocked. The stent is inserted along with a balloon catheter and expands when the balloon is inflated.
Coronary stents are now used in nearly all angioplasty procedures. A stent is a tiny, expandable metal mesh coil. Its put into the newly opened area of the artery to help keep the artery from narrowing or closing again. Tissue will start to coat the stent like a layer of skin once the stent has been placed.
Serious complications rarely happen during stent placement. People with heart failure, diabetes, kidney disease or a previous artery blockage have a higher risk of serious complications. Risks include: A blood clot inside your stent, especially if you abruptly stop taking your medicines that protect the stent.
A stent is often placed during or immediately after angioplasty. It helps prevent the artery from closing up again. A drug-eluting stent has medicine embedded in it that helps prevent the artery from closing in the long term.
