I need your help today. I have two solutions to this one, but I donamp;#39;t like either solution. Boy, there has to be something better. Episode 2618, display only the last four digits of the Social Security number, but keep the entire number available just in case. This question came in and it resonates with me. I used to take my father to the Veterans Hospital. Where you are known as your last name and the last four of the Social Security number. For those of you not in the United States, we all have a Social Security number here. Three digits, two digits, four digits. And the VA figured out that given your last name and the last four digits. Itamp;#39;s enough pretty much to make sure that itamp;#39;s you. All right? So the person here has a report that pulls data into Excel. They get the whole Social Security number. But they really only use the last four. Unless itamp;#39;s a weird situation where we have to look at the entire SSN. Maybe 1 out of 500 times. So the question is

Whether the digits in your cell are formatted as text, numbers, or the special Social Security number format, you can use the same functions. To display only the last four digits of identification numbers, use the CONCATENATE, RIGHT, and REPT functions.
To add dashes to SSNs using the REPLACE function in Excel, you can replace specific positions in the SSN string with dashes. For an SSN in cell A1, the formula =REPLACE(REPLACE(A1,6,0,-),4,0,-) inserts a dash after the third and fifth digits.
In the Excel sheet, select the row C to remove all dashes from SSN, place the pointer in the cell D2 and enter the formula that is =SUBSTITUTE(C2,-,) then press enter tab that will display the social security number without dashes. It will remove the dashes in the cell as shown below.
Use the formula =TEXT(A1,000-00-0000) where A1 represents the cell with the SSN. This function converts the SSN into a text format with dashes. Its essential to review the results for accuracy, ensuring all SSNs are correctly formatted.
Protect an Excel file Select File Info. Select the Protect Workbook box and choose Encrypt with Password. Enter a password in the Password box, and then select OK. Confirm the password in the Reenter Password box, and then select OK.
Display Social Security numbers in full Select the cell or range of cells that you want to format. On the Home tab, next to Number in the Number Format box. , click the arrow, and then click More Number Formats. In the Format Cells dialog box, under Category, click Special. In the Type list, click Social Security Number.
Adding One Method Click the cell you want to use to start your sequence. Enter the number 1 into the cell. In the next cell down, key in the formula =C1+1 (assuming C1 is your starting cell) Click the formula and then drag it down to the number you want to end your sequence with.
