Adding Logarithms In words, when we add log base b of M to log base b of N, it is just the same as taking log base b of M times N. This rule comes in very handy when we want to add two logarithms together that have the same base, but are not easy to calculate individually.
This law tells us how to add two logarithms together. Adding log A and log B results in the logarithm of the product of A and B, that is log AB. The same base, in this case 10, is used throughout the calculation. You should verify this by evaluating both sides separately on your calculator. The sum of the logs is the log of the product. The log of a sum cannot be simplified. The log of a difference is NOT the difference of the logs. The difference of the logs is the log of the quotient. 4.3 - Properties of Logarithms richland.edu james lecture logs pro richland.edu james lecture logs pro

Logs of the same base can be added together by multiplying their arguments: log(xy) = log(x) + log(y).
Value of Log 2 The value of log 2, to the base 10, is 0.301. if logab = x, then ax = b. Note: The variable a should be any positive integer, and it should not be equal to 1. Log10 2 = 0.3010. loge 2 = ln (2) = 0.693147. Question : Solution:
Turn the variable inside the log into an exponential equation (which is all about the base, of course). For example, to solve log3 x = 4, change it to the exponential equation 34 = x, or 1/81 = x. Keep in mind that because logs dont have negative bases, you throw the negative one out the window and say x = 4 only.
