[Music] hi everyone my name is Josh today Im gonna show you how we do x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy or XPS it all happens right in this lab lets go ahead and take a look were in the XPS lab welcome this is our XPS apparatus its very large mostly what it does is make a vacuum thats what all the noise youre hearing is we use this operettas to learn about chemistry of samples by hitting them with a beam of light and then looking at the electrons that come off after weve excited them with that x-ray light Im gonna sit down right here and take a look at this machines vital statistics before I get started Ive got two pressure measurements over here and thats because theres actually two chambers in this machine theres one chamber where we do the analysis in one chamber where we insert the samples those two set pressures look pretty good theyre within spec Im gonna make a note of that and then Im going to think about how Im going to put my samples inside the vacuum Ive got
